When looking for a job, keep in mind that personal connections are the most effective way to go.  Do you know someone who owns their own business or who is in a managerial position?  They might be open to hiring you.  Or, do your siblings/friends have jobs?  Maybe they can recommend you to their bosses.  When a boss can connect you to an actual person, you have a better chance of getting a job than if you are just a name on a paper.  Of course, if your friend is a lazy worker, being associated with him/her will probably hurt your chances, so choose your connections wisely.

The Hidden Job Market:  Most job openings are not advertised.  When looking for a job, first get an idea of what kind of business you want to work in.  Then do some leg work and drop off your resume at related businesses.  Try going to a local mall, or even looking up businesses in the Yellow Pages. Even if they have not posted any job advertisements, they may be ready to hire and you could be in the right place at the right time.
